Pharrell Williams at the Oscar Nominees Luncheon in Beverly Hills Monday, Feb. 6 (photo A.M.P.A.S.). Williams is one of the producers of Best Motion Picture nominee “Hidden Figures.” Williams attended the luncheon wearing a NASA baseball cap and sweatshirt, the focus of his film. Williams co-wrote the musical score for “Hidden Figures” and performed his original song  “I See A Victory” with Kim Burrell. Gate Admission increase for 2017 State Fair

(Photos Jeff Rutherford) It will cost a dollar more to get into the Great Minnesota Get-Together in 2017. The Minnesota State Fair board of managers approved the admission increase at their January meeting. Admission for adults 13-64 will be $14; children 5-12 and seniors 65 and over will be admitted for $12; kids under five are free. Advance tickets for all ages are $11. The approved admission fees represent an increase of $1 in all categories and took effect Feb. 1. Creator of Giant Slide Fred Pittroff inducted

Fred Pittroff, creator, owner and operator of the Giant Slide, was inducted into the Minnesota State Fair Hall of Fame in January. The Hall of Fame Award is the State Fair’s highest honor. For 49 years, Pittroff’s Giant Slide has been a State Fair icon, creating lifelong memories for generations of families. Fred’s daughter Stacey met her future husband Robert at the State Fair and were married in 1996 going down the Giant Slide. The couple’s love story can be read here. St. Paul Artist Ta-coumba Aiken to Create 2017 Minnesota State Fair Commemorative Art

St. Paul, Minn. St. Paul artist Ta-coumba Aiken (pronounced tah COOM-bah A ke-en) has been selected to create the official 2017 Minnesota State Fair Commemorative Art.
