Creator of Giant Slide Fred Pittroff inducted

Fred Pittroff, creator, owner and operator of the Giant Slide, was inducted into the Minnesota State Fair Hall of Fame in January. The Hall of Fame Award is the State Fair’s highest honor. For 49 years, Pittroff’s Giant Slide has been a State Fair icon, creating lifelong memories for generations of families. Minnesota State Fair: Prince crop art & Unite in Purple day

Crop artist David Steinlicht of Canada won the blue ribbon for his seed portrayal of late musician Prince. Steinlicht’s art, located in the Agriculture Horticulture building, was a popular place for fairgoers to visit to kick off their Minnesota State Fair Unite in Purple Day Aug. 26. Groans were heard from the crowds viewing Prince’s seed likeness as lights were shut off, signaling the close of day for the Fair and for Prince Day.
